Nokia has signed a deal with Nuance Communications to deliver mobile speech and predictive text
capabilities across all Nokia wireless devices.
Nokia will use Nuance’s mobile input solutions to provide customers a new mobile user interface.
Nokia and Nuance also plan to collaborate on an open integration framework for advanced input technologies
to encourage innovation in the broader mobile developer ecosystem.
The intended goal is to involve both text and speech input, and open it up to third-party developers that
will work jointly with the two companies.
Michael Thompson, Nuance’s v.p. and general manager said “this will maximize the usability of the user
interface, via text, speech, keystroke and various combinations of those inputs.”
Nuance isn't disclosing any specifics of this multi-year agreement, but did say the contract will be worth
tens of millions of dollars over the next several years.
On Oct. 6, T-Mobile USA announced that it was using Nuance’s Mobile Care software.
The software helps wireless users fix problems and perform account management through a speech interface.
