Starting Oct. 4, Cricket' PAY-GO products will be sold by Target, which also started to sell in Best Buy stores Sep. 27.

With this announcement today, the Leap Wireless International subsidiary will join the likes of prepaid rivals Virgin Mobile USA.

Cricket's PAY-GO products will be in nearly 650 Target stores where Cricket service is already available.

Cricket's PAY-GO products has been in Wal-Mart and Dollar General for about a year now, according to a company spokesman.

The new nationwide service plans are inclusive of the usual telecommunications taxes and fees and already include voicemail, call waiting, caller ID and three-way calling over Cricket's 3G EV-DO network.

Cricket PAY-GO "top-up cards" also will be available at select Target locations.

PAY-GO offers unlimited wireless service at $1, $2 or $3 per day and monthly Cricket PAY-GO service plans at $40 and $45 per month.

Cricket's $45 plan has all the unlimited features of the $40 plan plus unlimited mobile Web and 411 directory assistance service as well.

Additionally, two Cricket wireless phones will be available at Target. They include the Cricket TXTM-8, which is built for text and picture messaging and sells for $89.99.

The other wireless device is the Cricket CAPTR and sells for $49.99.

Now some wireless industry observers say other mobile service operators could follow suit shortly with similar products and services that will directly compete with Cricket.

The industry continues to be as competitive as ever. Both Samsung and Nokia recently said that they will soon launch new handsets. No dates have been offered yet but one industry insider has suggested mid-November as a potential timeframe.
