Only two days after AT&T said it will start offering the new Garmin-Asus G-60 Linux Nuvifone in the U.S.,
the wireless carrier is now introducing four additional mobile phones, two each from Pantech and Samsung that
feature full Internet browsers as well as physical and virtual keyboards.
AT&T's new Pantech Reveal and Impact smartphones will join the Samsung Mythic and Flight headsets at the head
of AT&T's quick messaging and touch-screen phone portfolio heading into the Christmas holidays.
The Pantech Reveal will be on store shelves Oct. 18 and will be available in red and blue.
The Reveal features an open-faced numeric keypad on the front of the phone, which slides up to uncover a
full Qwerty keyboard underneath.
The Pantech Impact features an OLED touch screen that lets users send text messages, make phone calls and
control their music library without having to open the phone. Impact's screen features haptic controls that
register each key press with a soft, tactile buzz.
A sideways flip of the phone reveals a full physical keyboard and a second display screen.
The new phones are the first to come pre-loaded with AT&T's new HTML mobile browser and att.net service. The
wireless carrier says the new att.net mobile platform uses advanced data compression from Opera Software, allowing
for much faster delivery of HTML Web pages, according to the company.
A touch screen-only device, the AT&T Mobile TV-capable Samsung Mythic will be available in November for $199.99
after a $50 mail in rebate.
The 3.3-inch touch screen scrolls left to right on the home screen for additional applications that are
accessible with a touch of a finger.
The Samsung Flight is a next-generation messaging device that has a vertical sliding form factor, with
full Qwerty keyboard. The main display features a unique user interface that provides one-touch access
to functions like shortcuts, favorites and messaging.
The Samsung Flight will be available in November for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in-coupon-rebate and with a
two-year agreement.
Announces just 2 days ago, AT&T's new Nuvifone G-60 was made available in Taiwan on July 27, and in Singapore
and Malaysia later in August, via various wireless carriers and retail channels, said Garmin-Asus.
The company also plans to roll out the smartphone in Europe at some point, and plans to field an Android phone
by the end of 2009, in addition to the G60 and its Windows Mobile-based Nuvifone M-20.
Announced on Sep. 16, the new handset incorporates a slide-out Qwerty keyboard, and supports T-Mobile's HSDPA
3G network, with download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps.
