Wireless users with unlocked iPhones have been complaining that Apple and AT&T won't service the handsets should something go wrong with the phone.

To this date, neither company has made any formal or legal attempts to go after hackers who published directions to unlock the iPhone.

Now, there even is a growing number of Web sites that sell unlocking software or even sites such as eBay which are selling illegal and unlocked versions of the handsets.

iPhone customers have been posting tales on iPhone fan sites about AT&T canceling warranties for the handsets and specific measures to ensure the unlocked phones will no longer work on its network.

Also, Apple has recently announced that it will not support any carrier, other than AT&T, should a customer using another service provider try to bring the handset in for service, even if the handset is still under warranty.

An Apple spokesman responded to an email about whether installing software on the phone would break the devices warranties, saying, "Apple does not support unlocked iPhones."
