Late yesterday, NextPhase Wireless said several of its customers are deploying mobile Wi-MAX in the
3.65 GHz wireless spectrum.
The operators include Digital Bridge Communications, which on July 6 began offering service in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Other operators include Pipeline Wireless in Boston and NextPhase itself in Orange County, Calif.
NextPhase has additional plans for Atlanta, Philadelphia and southern New Jersey, the company said
in a statement.
NextPhase added that initial sales will be for business customers, with the potential to reach 110 million
subscribers in less than six years from now.
However, as a whole, industry adoption for WiMAX technology so far has been very slow and inconsistent, and
some analysts don't see much improvement for the next year. Others disagree.
NextPhase said in a media statement yesterday “the 3.65 GHz range has been considered ideal for WiMAX because
of its higher power allotment and the licensed nature of its spectrum. However, until recently, WiMAX gear wasn't
available in this spectrum. We hope that this will change soon and we are actively working in that direction.”
