Exalt Communications’ wireless backhaul routers are now capable of transfering over 440 MB of
throughput using the Gigabit Ethernet protocol.
Exalt's tri-band routers, dubbed the Ex-R series, cost $15,000 to $20,000 and have a built-in
spectrum analyzer.
Exalt only started shipping its first product in April 2006, and now claims it has about 370 customers.
Some of them include most of the major U.S. Tier 1 operators.
Exalt's current competitors include Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Harris, Motorola and NEC.
Overall throughput will probably double next year, CEO Amir Zoufonoun said.
At the same time, the largest wireless carriers are already shopping for LTE support as part of routine
network upgrades, even thought LTE isn’t expected to reach consumers until the 2010 timeframe.
Exalt said it will support LTE soon, Zoufonoun added.
