Apple just confirmed that it is recalling its compact USB adapters for the iPhone 3G handset since
the connecting prongs can potentially break inside electrical wall outlets.
“Apple has determined that the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter's
metal prongs can break off and still remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock."
"Users with ultracompact power adapters should immediately stop using them,” Apple said in a statement.
So far, no injuries were reported and iPhone customers can still charge their phones with the non-compact
plug or through a computer’s USB connector. Aftermarket adapters aren't affected, however.
The power adapters were sold with the smartphone in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico and several
Latin American countries.
Additionally, iPhone users say there's been other recent issues that included a network bug, poor phone
reception, an unexplained update and specific activation problems in some cases.
Apple said it will issue replacement adapters as of October 10 online and at most of its Apple stores.
The company added that iPhone users must return their old adapters.
