Responding to strong public criticism, T-Mobile USA has removed the 1-GB monthly cap from its G1 phone’s licensing agreement.

To a certain degree, the move was anticipated by some. T-Mobile's news was well received in the market.

Officials of the fourth-largest U.S. wireless carrier said the license wording wasn't final when it was inadvertently spotted by some bloggers on Tuesday.

The worries are that the phone’s Internet browser and music download service through Amazon, running atop the new Google Android software, could too easily exceed that limit for most of the phone's users.

T-Mobile's small limit was particularly controversial since the company advertised an “unlimited” data service for its new phone, meant to directly and agressively compete against Apple' popular iPhone 3G.
